NDDC Intensifies Work on Kaa-Ataba Bridge in Rivers

Construction work on the 1.2-kilometre Kaa-Ataba Bridge in Rivers State has reached an advanced stage, with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) expressing optimism that the project will soon be completed.
The multi-billion-naira bridge project, which links Kaa in Khana Local Government Area to Ataba in Andoni Local Government Area, is considered one of the key infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity and economic activities in the riverine communities.
Speaking during an inspection of the project site, the Managing Director of the construction firm handling the project, Engineer Christian Emeozor, described the bridge as a major intervention that would significantly impact the socio-economic development of the area.
Emeozor said the company was intensifying efforts to ensure speedy completion of the project despite operational challenges caused by adverse weather conditions and irregular tidal waves.
According to him, fluctuating tides had affected the movement of construction materials to the site and slowed down work on the installation of the remaining bridge beams.
He explained that measures had already been put in place to address the challenges, adding that additional manpower and equipment would be deployed to accelerate construction work.
“We are committed to delivering on speed and quality,” Emeozor stated, assuring residents that the company would do everything necessary to complete the project on schedule.
He noted that the project would improve transportation, reduce risks associated with river crossings and enhance commercial activities in the affected communities.

“The bridge project will improve the quality of life of the people of Kaa and Ataba, as well as help transport farm produce, goods and properties from the rich agricultural area,” he said.
The contractor also commended members of the host communities for their cooperation and support throughout the execution of the project.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of the NDDC, Samuel Ogbuku, recently briefed President Bola Tinubu on the level of progress recorded on the Kaa-Ataba Bridge and other legacy projects being executed by the commission across the Niger Delta region.
