Babcock University to host innovation summit, unveils plan for ‘Nigeria’s Silicon Valley’

Babcock University has announced plans to host the Babcock University Innovation Ventures Summit 2026, a two-day event aimed at advancing conversations on innovation, artificial intelligence, and technology development in Nigeria.
The summit is scheduled to hold on April 21 and 22, 2026, at the university campus, and is expected to bring together government officials, business leaders, academics, researchers, investors, and students.
According to the university, the gathering will serve as a platform for dialogue on building a sustainable innovation ecosystem capable of driving economic growth and technological transformation.
A key highlight of the initiative is the unveiling of a proposed world-class innovation hub within the institution, which the university described as a step toward positioning Nigeria as a global player in technology-driven development.
Officials said the hub is envisioned as an ecosystem for research, startup incubation, industry partnerships, and the commercialisation of innovative ideas, with a focus on bridging the gap between academia and enterprise.
“The global economy is rapidly being reshaped by innovation, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation. Nations that fail to act decisively risk being left behind,” the university said in a statement, describing the summit as a “call to action” for collaboration and leadership in emerging technologies.
Organisers said the initiative seeks to harness Nigeria’s youthful population and growing digital capacity by creating structured opportunities for innovation and enterprise development.
A representative of the summit organisers said the goal is to build a coordinated ecosystem that can convert local ideas and talent into globally competitive solutions.
The summit will feature keynote presentations, panel discussions, live demonstrations, and strategic sessions focused on emerging technologies, startup ecosystems, policy frameworks, and investment opportunities.
Participants are also expected to explore partnerships and funding opportunities aimed at supporting the proposed innovation hub.
Babcock University said it is inviting stakeholders across the public and private sectors, including development partners, investors, policymakers, and innovators, to participate in the summit and contribute to the project’s development.
The university added that the initiative is not limited to a one-off event but is intended to serve as the foundation for a long-term innovation ecosystem.
The Innovation Ventures Summit is expected to attract both national and international attention as Nigeria continues to pursue strategies to strengthen its technology and innovation landscape.
