NFWP: Ogun registers over 1,500 women affinity groups, surpasses 1,000 target

Ogun State has recorded the formation of over 1,500 Women Affinity Groups (WAGs), exceeding the 1,000 groups targeted under the Nigeria For Women Programme Scale-Up (NFWP-SU).

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Adijat Adeleye, disclosed this during a two-day state visitation under the Hybrid Implementation Support Mission of the NFWP-SU in Abeokuta.

According to Adeleye, the state’s strong performance under the programme is a product of sustained political will, effective coordination and consistent government support.

She explained that the achievement reflects not only the dedication of the project implementation team, but also the active participation of women who have embraced the initiative as a pathway to improved livelihoods, a stronger savings culture and economic independence.

“The progress recorded in Ogun demonstrates what is possible when women-focused programmes are backed by purposeful leadership and community buy-in,” the commissioner said.

“I advise other states implementing the NFWP-SU to adopt Ogun’s approach. The programme’s success here provides a clear roadmap for driving inclusive growth and sustainable development through women empowerment.”

Also speaking, the State Project Coordinator of the NFWP-SU in Ogun, Mrs. Bolanle Fadairo, attributed the project’s success to the unwavering commitment of the Ogun State Government under Governor Dapo Abiodun.

She noted that the provision of an enabling environment, timely additional financing and strong multi-sectoral collaboration had significantly driven the project’s progress.

Fadairo added that several states which had visited Ogun to understudy its implementation strategy were expected to scale up their activities, with the aim of surpassing expectations of implementing partners while strengthening responsive women empowerment models.
