As part of activities lined up to mark this year’s Real Estate Unite, 3invest will be launching its “Run 2 Build” initiative in honour of millions of displaced Nigerians including those living in slums.

The Chief Executive Officer of 3invest, Ms Ruth Obih disclosed this during a press conference on Tuesday in Lekki on the annual Real Estate Unite holding at the Eko Convention Centre, Victoria Island on the 29th and 30th of September 2015.

Ms Obih said this practical approach will serve as an effective vehicle in the eradication of the deficit within the housing sector.

“At the event we are going to start driving a campaign, we call it run to raise more awareness.

We push this kind of awareness to bring to the knowledge of the government the suffering of people residing in the slums.

“Government should start looking at not just Eko Atlantic.

We have Makoko in the middle of Lagos, why can’t we try and do something about that and create more social housing?” she said.

Commending 3invest for their giant strides, Mr. Kunle Omotola, a real estate lawyer insists that real estate is the messiah the country needs at the moment.

latform has enabled the Lagos state government to come forward and showcase the Lagos HOMS and that is what is also driving the Ogun state government to show some of the development strides.

“The revenue from oil has gone down by about 70% and it’s no brainer that real estate is an area we can actually drive growth to make up for the loss of revenue”.

On affordable and social housing, Miss Ufuoma Ukueku of Haven Homes said they are making consistent efforts to drive down the price of houses while providing the same luxury experience.

“People came to meet us on different occasions to complain that the price of housing is too high.

To make our houses affordable, we now put four units on a plot against the two units and this dropped the price by almost 50% making it affordable. We will keep looking for ways to make it more affordable for people”, she said.

The theme of this year’s Real Estate Unite is, ‘Connecting the DOTS in African’s real estate’, an acronym for Drivers, Opportunities, transformation and sustainability which are the building blocks that contribute to the longtime viability of the real estate sector.
