VIDEO: Joshua shatters Jake Paul’s jaw with brutal knockout in Miami showdown

Anthony Joshua sent Jake Paul to hospital with a broken jaw after knocking out the YouTube star in the sixth round of their much-hyped fight in Miami.

The British former two-time world heavyweight champion finally ended a frustrating contest with a devastating right hand that floored Paul and left him with fractures in two places in his jaw.

Paul, who had struggled with his footing throughout the bout, collapsed near the ropes at the Kaseya Center before staggering back to his feet, prompting the referee to wave off the contest.

Joshua, however, admitted afterwards that the performance was not among his best, having been widely expected to dispatch the novice boxer far earlier in the scheduled eight-round fight.

“It wasn’t the best performance,” Joshua told Netflix after the bout. “The goal was to pin Jake Paul down and hurt him. It took longer than expected, but the right hand found its destination.”

The fight began with Paul making a typically flamboyant ring walk, sporting sunglasses and flanked by a rap artist, but his bravado quickly faded once the opening bell rang. He spent much of the first round back-pedalling as Joshua prodded with jabs to find his range.

Paul did enjoy a brief moment of encouragement when he landed a left hand to the delight of the American crowd, but Joshua steadily increased the pressure in the second round, landing heavy shots and forcing Paul onto the ropes.

Despite Joshua’s growing dominance, Paul showed surprising resilience. A cheeky uppercut caught Joshua in the third round, while a looping hook briefly embarrassed the Briton in the fourth, though it caused little damage.

The bout turned decisively in the fifth round when Joshua unleashed a flurry of punches that sent Paul to the canvas for the first time. Although Paul beat the count, Joshua dropped him again moments later, only for the bell to sound.

The end came swiftly in the sixth. Paul was floored following another exchange, and as he rose unsteadily, Joshua unleashed a crushing right hand that ended the fight.

“You have to give Jake his respect for trying,” Joshua said. “But he came up against a real fighter tonight.”

Paul later confirmed he had suffered a broken jaw and headed to hospital for treatment, sharing a scan showing fractures on both sides of his jaw.

“I think my jaw is broken. It’s definitely broke,” Paul said. “But I loved it. Anthony is a great fighter and hits really hard.”

Despite the injury, Paul remained defiant, insisting he would return to the ring.

“I’m going to come back and get a world championship belt at some point,” he added.

Paul did not attend the post-fight press conference as he sought medical attention, but his promoter, Most Valuable Promotions CEO Nikisa Bidarian, said the injury was not unusual.

“A broken jaw is very common in combat sports,” Bidarian said. “The recovery time we’ve been told is about four to six weeks.”

Joshua, who had not fought since his knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in September 2024, said he would now turn his attention to bigger fights, with a long-anticipated clash against Tyson Fury firmly back on his radar.
