Abia State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Umuahia has upheld the electoral victory of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
Ikpeazu is of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Usman Bwala, chairman of the tribunal in his ruling, dismissed the petition filed by Alex Otti, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), noting that Otti was unable to prove his allegations of irregularities at the re-run election held on April 25, 2015.
Bwala also noted that the petitioner should not be asking for the cancellation of the rerun election and at the same time wanting to be declared the winner.
Reacting to the ruling, Ikpeazu thanked God and the people of Abia for their continued support, stating that the victory has given his administration further impetus to continue with the development of the state.
He urged the aggrieved parties to show some sense of patriotism and join hands with his administration to render quality service to the people.
“For me there is no victor, no vanquished, as the victory today is victory for the state”, he said.
