Otti lists over 110 projects completed, ongoing across Abia amid opposition criticism

The Abia State Government has released a comprehensive list of projects completed and ongoing under the administration of Governor Alex Otti, highlighting what it described as visible development across key sectors despite criticisms from political opponents.
The projects were outlined in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, who said the achievements represent the administration’s practical response to what he called “opposition noise and frustration.”
According to the statement, the projects cut across infrastructure, healthcare, education, power, transportation, and institutional reforms, reflecting the government’s effort to reposition the state through extensive public investment.
Among the completed road projects listed are Port Harcourt Road, Ohanku Road, People’s Road, Emelogu Road, Kent Road, Umuoba Road, Ndoki Road, Ovom Road and Elizabeth Avenue in Aba, as well as Aguiyi Ironsi Boulevard and Library Avenue in Umuahia.
Other completed infrastructure projects include the Abiriba Ring Road, Umuahia–Abiriba Road, Abiriba–Ohafia Road, and several internal roads across Aba, Umuahia, Ohafia and other communities in the state.
The government also highlighted the completion of the Umuahia Central Bus Terminal and the installation of about 70 bus shelters across Aba and Umuahia as part of efforts to improve urban transportation.
In the power sector, the administration reported the restoration of electricity to 33 communities in Ukwa West, the installation of over 10,000 solar streetlights across the state, and the distribution of more than 60 electricity transformers.
According to the statement, the government has also made progress in healthcare development, including the completion of 200 primary healthcare centres across the state’s 184 wards.
Several hospital projects are also underway, including the construction of a new Abam General Hospital and Ukwa East General Hospital, the upgrade of two general hospitals to specialist hospitals, and the reconstruction of seven general hospitals out of the 22 across the state.
The government further disclosed that nearly 700 medical professionals have been recruited and deployed to strengthen healthcare service delivery.
In the education sector, the administration said it has reconstructed 221 public schools across the state, while work is ongoing on 20 smart schools, with three already completed.
It also revealed that 5,394 teachers have been recruited and deployed, while the process is ongoing to hire an additional 4,000 teachers.
At the Abia State University, Uturu, several projects are ongoing, including the construction of new faculties of law and agriculture, a new cafeteria complex, and a 10,000-bed capacity hostel project for male and female students.
The renovation of the ABSU staff secondary school and the rehabilitation of existing hostels were also listed among ongoing projects.
In the area of public infrastructure, the government said it has completed the reconstruction of the 17 local government headquarters across the state as well as the renovation of key public buildings such as the Okpara Auditorium, International Conference Centre, and the Emeka Omeruo Guest House.
Other ongoing projects include the reconstruction of Enyimba Hotel in Aba, the upgrade of the Aba correctional centre, and the rebuilding of the governor’s office and lodge within the Government House complex.
The administration also highlighted ongoing strategic infrastructure such as the Abia Airport project, the Aba Central Bus Terminal, and several dualisation and reconstruction road projects including the Onuimo–Tower Road corridor and the Owerrinta–Umuikaa Road.
According to the statement, the government has also embarked on extensive erosion control interventions in several communities, including the Alayi erosion project and other environmental recovery initiatives across the state.
In addition, the government said it has undertaken significant economic revitalisation efforts by acquiring dormant industrial assets such as Afro Beverages and Star Paper Mill from the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) as part of plans to revive industrial production in the state.
The administration also confirmed that arrangements have been concluded for the acquisition of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) assets serving Abia, with payment processes expected to commence soon.
Land compensation payments have also been completed for major development projects including the Abia Industrial Innovative Park and the Abia Medical City, while payments are ongoing for land acquired for the Abia Airport project.
Water infrastructure projects are also being revived, with the CKC Water Scheme in Aba nearing completion and work progressing on the Umuahia water project.
Mr. Ukoha said the list represents only part of the ongoing development activities across the state.
“The list is not exhaustive. More projects will continue to be published as the administration remains committed to delivering visible and impactful development across Abia State,” he stated.
He added that the projects demonstrate the government’s commitment to addressing infrastructure deficits and improving the quality of life for residents.
The governor’s spokesman maintained that the administration’s focus remains on delivering tangible results rather than responding to political criticism, noting that ongoing projects across the state serve as evidence of the government’s development agenda.
He concluded that the administration would continue to prioritise projects capable of driving economic growth, improving public services and strengthening institutional capacity across Abia State.
