Osun 2026: Timi of Ede, opinion moulders urged to call Gov Adeleke’s CoS to order over 'provoking utterances'

A call has gone to the Traditional Ruler of Ede, the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal Laminisa 1, as well as other notable opinion moulders and political stakeholders in  the hometown of Osun State Governor , Senator Ademola Adeleke on the need to call his Chief of Staff,  Alhaji Kazeem Akinleye to order over alleged unguarded statement concerning the forthcoming state governorship election in 2026.

Making the call in a statement he personally singed as a member and on behalf of leaders and stakeholders of  the Ede South Apex Council  of  the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State,  O gbeni ‘Laolu Adabanija, pointed out  that they all frowned at Akinleye’s “unguarded statement.”

Adabanija said  a recent statement by Akinleye that any Ede indigene who failed to vote for Governor Adeleke in the next governorship election in 2026 should go on exile and relocate to the Republic of Benin and never show up in Ede again after the election, was uncalled for and debased his exalted office.

Adabanija who also hails from  Edeland said such an unguarded statement from Adeleke’s Chief of Staff is undemocratic and can fuel discordance and violence not only in Ede but in the entire Osun State.

Adabanija’s caution on Akinleye and the need for him to be called to order is coming on the heel of a similar call made by  the  National  Secretary  of the APC,  Senator Surajudeen Ajibola who castigated Akinleye over what he described as unguarded statement ahead of  the 2026 governorship  election in Osun State.

The APC Chieftain said concerned citizens and opposition leadership in Ede, viewed the statement of Akinleye  as unpatriotic and undemocratic and fall low of the office he represents.

Adabanija pointed out that such utterances which amounted  to a  big threat on the  rights  of  individuals, is not only undemocratic but also a disservice to the harmonious coexistence and political maturity “we have fostered in Edeland over the years.”

According to him, Ede has a proud history of meaningful contributions to Osun development, championed by illustrious sons and daughters, citing the examples of Late Senator Saka Layonu  a first Republic Minister,  who played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Ede General Hospital, providing vital healthcare services to the people; Late Colonel David Bankole Laoye’s efforts which  brought the NYSC Camp to Ede, creating opportunities for youths development and national unity, while the dedication of  Alhaja Rahmat Adisa, wife of late General Abdukareem Adisa, who was a Minister of Works, resulted in the establishment of  Federal Polytechnic Ede, and the Oke Gada Bridge, which have both been instrumental to education and infrastructure growth. So also Alhaji Abdulkabir Aliu (Matrix Energy) who has been empowering multitude of indigenes devoid of politics.

The APC  Chieftain also knowledged the contributions of the  Adeleke family,  which he said have made significant strides in uplifting Edeland, particularly through educational and philanthropic initiatives, while he also pointed out that several families like them are doing their best in contributing towards the development of “our dear town and that does not gives the impetus for one to stampede the other.”

He said that, “it is critical to state that no single individual or family can lay sole claim to the destiny of our beloved land.”

“Democracy thrives on diversity of opinions, and the ability to express those opinions without fear of reprisal is sacrosanct.” Adabanija further stated.

He condemned the statement of  Alhaji Kazeem Akinleye describing it as “stark deviation from Democratic principles, saying if left unchecked, poses a threat to our collective peace.”

“As a result,  we  call on our Baba Kabiyesi, the Timi of Edeland, to  caution the Chief of Staff. As the custodian of our culture and traditions, Kabiyesi must ensure that the sanctity of democratic values and respect for divergent views are upheld in our community. Alhaji Akinleye’s statement reeks of authoritarianism and smacks of the traits of a despot rather than a democrat.” Adabanija pointed out.

“Furthermore, we must ask: does Akinleye’s statement reflect the inner convictions of Governor Ademola Adeleke? Is this the position of the government he leads? If his Chief of Staff can speak in such a manner, should we then assume that dissenting voices have no place in Osun State under Governor Adeleke’s administration?” the APC chieftain  further opined.

Adabanija said Ede deserves leaders who will unite, not divide; who will inspire, not intimidate, adding “We urge the Adeleke administration to clarify its stance and demonstrate that it truly represents all citizens, regardless of political affiliations.

“Threats and intimidation have no place in a democratic society. Let us preserve the legacy of peace, progress, and unity that Edeland has always stood for”, Adabanija said.
