Ogun to reconstruct Ago-Odo–Lafenwa road to boost commerce in Abeokuta

Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has announced plans to commence the reconstruction of the Ago-Odo to Lafenwa road in Abeokuta, as part of efforts to enhance commercial activities in the state capital.
The governor made the disclosure during the commissioning of the 5.5-kilometre Elega-Miliki-Saje-Bode-Olude-Alhaji Sugar road, which cuts across Abeokuta North and Abeokuta South Local Government Areas.
Abiodun explained that the decision followed requests from stakeholders, including the chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government and the Alake of Egbaland, noting that the road would include a bridge linking the axis to Lafenwa.
“I will reconstruct that road,” the governor said, adding that the project would improve connectivity and ease movement within the area.
He also revealed that the state’s refurbished Olumo Rock tourist centre is set to be adopted by the city of Milan in Italy, as part of efforts to boost tourism and international collaboration.
According to him, the facility, which was concessioned to private operators after renovation, has witnessed a significant increase in revenue generation, rising from about ₦3 million monthly in the past to approximately ₦10 million weekly.
The governor said the state government has procured new customised lifts for the tourist centre to enhance visitor experience and increase capacity.
Providing further updates on infrastructure development, Abiodun disclosed that 26 roads are ready for commissioning across the state, in line with his administration’s policy of inaugurating at least one road weekly.
“If we continue at this pace, road commissioning will go on for the next six months,” he said, reiterating his commitment to fulfilling campaign promises before the end of his tenure in 2027.
Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Ade Akinsanya, said the newly commissioned road would stimulate economic activities in the affected communities and urged residents to take ownership of the infrastructure.
Also speaking, Consultant to the Governor on Islamic Affairs, Wakeel-Sheu-Sugar, commended the administration for transforming the once difficult route into a motorable road.
Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo, described the project as a catalyst for economic revival in the area, while his Abeokuta South counterpart, Afeez Balogun, noted that ongoing road projects would further enhance commercial activities.
In his remarks, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Adedotun Gbadebo, commended the governor for ongoing infrastructural development across the state, particularly in Abeokuta.
