Ogun Speaker warns against indiscriminate waste dumping, seeks shelter for JAMB candidates

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, has warned residents of Abeokuta, particularly those along Idi-Aba Road, to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse on road medians.

Elemide issued the warning during plenary at the Assembly Complex in Oke-Mosan, noting that the practice contributes to environmental degradation and air pollution. He said offenders would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Speaker also urged the Ogun State Ministries of Works and Infrastructure, as well as Environment, to improve the maintenance of road medians across the state by clearing weeds and ensuring proper upkeep.

In a related development, Elemide called on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to adopt more humane arrangements for candidates sitting for its examinations.

He expressed concern over reports that candidates are often left standing in open spaces for extended periods while waiting to sit for their exams, exposing them to harsh weather conditions.

The Speaker stressed that such conditions could pose health risks to candidates, especially during extreme heat or rainfall.

He therefore appealed to JAMB to provide waiting sheds at examination centres to protect candidates from adverse weather while they await their scheduled examination time.
