MAGGI deepens stakeholder engagement on food safety, quality standards

MAGGI has reinforced its commitment to food quality and safety through a series of stakeholder engagement activities designed to provide greater insight into its production processes and value chain operations.
The initiative, organised to commemorate World Food Safety Day, brought together suppliers, distributors, consumers, journalists and digital content creators for immersive experiences aimed at promoting awareness of food safety standards and the shared responsibility required to maintain product quality.
According to the company, the engagements provided participants with firsthand knowledge of the processes and partnerships involved in delivering MAGGI products to consumers across Nigeria.
Suppliers were introduced to MAGGI’s quality requirements and manufacturing standards, while distributors received guidance on best practices for product handling, storage and warehousing to preserve quality throughout the distribution chain. Consumers also interacted with experts to gain a better understanding of the ingredients, production processes and expertise behind MAGGI products.
The programme culminated in a factory tour at Nestlé Nigeria’s Agbara Factory, where journalists and digital content creators traced the production journey of a MAGGI cube from locally sourced soya beans to the finished product.
Participants observed how soya beans sourced from Nigerian farmers are transformed through controlled fermentation processes and advanced manufacturing technology to produce the seasoning cubes widely used in Nigerian households.
The visit also highlighted links between traditional African food preparation methods and modern food manufacturing. Organisers explained that some fermentation techniques employed in MAGGI production are inspired by traditional practices used in preparing local seasonings such as iru, dawadawa and ogiri.
A major focus of the factory experience was the company’s quality assurance and food safety systems. Visitors were taken through various stages of production, including ingredient sourcing, testing, manufacturing, packaging and distribution, to demonstrate the standards and monitoring processes employed to maintain product quality and safety.
Speaking on the initiative, Category Manager, Culinary, Nestlé Nigeria, Funmi Osineye, said food quality and safety require collaboration across the entire value chain.
“MAGGI reaches millions of consumers through a value chain that includes farmers, suppliers, distributors, retailers, consumers and many other partners. We believe quality and food safety are shared responsibilities, which is why we continuously engage stakeholders across the value chain to build understanding, strengthen collaboration and provide greater visibility into the journey behind our products,” she said.
She added that creating opportunities for dialogue helps stakeholders better understand the ingredients, expertise and processes that contribute to the quality consumers expect from the brand.
Also speaking, Factory Manager of Nestlé Nigeria’s Agbara Factory, Talla Fall, said quality and food safety remain integral to every stage of the company’s operations.
“From sourcing ingredients and testing raw materials to manufacturing and packaging, our teams work diligently every day to uphold the high standards that consumers expect from MAGGI. These engagements provide an important opportunity to demonstrate the care, expertise and rigorous processes behind every product,” Fall said.
The programme also featured an interactive cooking session that allowed participants to experience the practical use of MAGGI products in meal preparation while engaging in discussions on taste, nutrition, quality and responsible product use.
MAGGI said the initiative forms part of its broader efforts to promote transparency, strengthen stakeholder confidence and maintain its commitment to providing quality products for consumers.
