Nigeria Police name Iniedu Okokon new force spokesperson

The Nigeria Police Force has appointed Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Iniedu Okokon as its new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), marking another change in the leadership of the Force’s public communications department.

Okokon takes over from Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Placid, who assumed the position barely three months ago following the appointment of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu as the 23rd head of the Nigeria Police Force.

Although the police authorities have yet to issue a detailed statement explaining the latest development, Placid confirmed his replacement when contacted by journalists.

The former police spokesman, in a brief text message, acknowledged that he had been relieved of the position.

Sources at the Force Headquarters in Abuja said Placid has been redeployed to the Lagos State Police Command, where he is expected to head the Finance and Administration Department.

The appointment of Okokon comes amid ongoing administrative adjustments within the police hierarchy under the leadership of IGP Disu.

As Force Public Relations Officer, Okokon will serve as the official spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force and will be responsible for managing public communication, media relations and dissemination of information on police activities nationwide.

The police have not announced any additional changes linked to the appointment.
