#KogiDecides: APC’s Adeyemi defeats Dino Melaye in his local government

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Kogi West senatorial district re-run election, Smart Adeyemi, has defeated Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ijumu local government, the home local government of both candidates.

While Mr Adeyemi is an indigene of Iyara, Dino Melaye is from Aiyetoro, a neighbouring village.

According to the final result for the local government announced on Sunday morning by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Adeyemi’s APC polled a total of 11,627 votes while Mr Melaye’s PDP got 7,647 votes.

Ijumu is part of Kogi West senatorial district, the district the candidates seek to represent in the Senate.

Election in the local government had been characterized by violence with armed thugs shooting sporadically and chasing voters and election observers.
