Kogi guber: APC clears Yakubu Mohammed, four others

A founder of Newswatch Magazine and one of the pillars behind the creation of Kogi State in 1991, Alhaji Yakubu Mohammed has been cleared by the All Progressives Congress APC, to participate in the primary election for the Kogi State governorship election.
This is coming on the heels of the announcement made by the party on Monday that 12 out of 16 aspirants were not cleared. Yakubu Mohammed, former Chairman of Nigerian Football Association, Sani Lulu, a former chief of Naval Staff, Usman Jibrin, Mohammed Audu and Mona Audu who are sons of late Prince Abubakar Audu and others were part of those who were not cleared to contest.
It was a shock to many Nigerians that APC failed to clear most of the candidates from Kogi East (Igala land) despite boasting of numerical strength.
Governor Yahaya Bello who has been accused of “double registration” and also “falsification of age” was cleared alongside Hassan Abdullahi a member of the Federal House of Representatives.
The story is quite different today, as a fresh screening of aspirants was conducted in Abuja on Tuesday (yesterday). Some of those who were not cleared initially have now been cleared to participate in the primaries. Unfortunately for some aspirants, they failed to make the list again.
A statement signed by National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, reads “The National Working Committee NWC) of the APC has deliberated on the reports of the screening and appeal committees for the Party’s Kogi Governorship aspirants.
“After a comprehensive review of the submissions by the two committees, relying on the party’s guidelines and the provisions of the Electoral Act, nine aspirants were finally cleared to contest the August 29, 2019 Indirect Governorship primary. Seven other aspirants did not meet the requirements for the participation in the exercise.”
