The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday decried what it described as attempt by the aides of President Goodluck Jonathan to hijack the structure of the party through divisive means for their selfish aggrandisement.
In a statement issued at a press briefing, its National Publicity, Olisa Metuh alerted that the aides of the president has been using their closeness to the president to cause a lot of disaffection by pushing out false information against the national working committee of the party.
Metuh also accused them of deliberately pushing out falsehood that may cause division in the party and make it lose some of its elected members to the opposition party.
He expressed dismay that the aides have been unrelented in this falsehood even after several clarifications by the NWC members. He however expressed delight by the action of the president to seek the way forward for the party.
“You will recall that soon after the 2015 general elections, the media, especially the social media have been awash with sponsored negative publications and other insinuations against the leadership of our great party.
“You will also recall that we had hinted you on several occasions that some fifth columnists working with other parties had been concocting some frivolous allegations and sponsoring amorphous groups against the National Working Committee.
“We had also alerted the Nigerian public through you that some members of our party including ambitious aides and associates of President Goodluck Jonathan are using their perceived closeness to him to further their heinous agenda of injecting crisis in the party with a view to high jacking the structure for their selfish interests.
