Concerned Muslim stakeholders back Tinubu, endorse Oyebamiji ahead of Osun guber

Concerned Muslim stakeholders and the League of Alfas in Osun State have expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to continue his “good works beyond 2027,” while also throwing their weight behind Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
The endorsement was made during the 2026 Ramadan Lecture and distribution of Ramadan packages organised by the group in Osogbo on Thursday.
Speaking at the event, Sheikh Qozeem Abdul-Rahaman, President of the group, said the gathering aimed to strengthen unity among Muslims and reflect on the theme of the lecture: “We Are Not Where We Ought To Be, Nor Are We Where We Used To Be.” He explained that the theme highlights the journey of the Muslim community through various social and political circumstances and urged members of the Ummah to remain steadfast and united.
Abdul-Rahaman also noted that the Ramadan package initiative, distributed to Muslims across the state, was facilitated through President Tinubu. He described the gesture as unprecedented, pointing out that while Muslims and Yoruba people had previously held the presidency, this is the first time a sitting president had distributed Ramadan packages to the Muslim Ummah across Yorubaland and the country.
The cleric encouraged beneficiaries and the Muslim community to show gratitude for the gesture, citing the Holy Qur’an, Surah Ibrahim, Chapter 14, Verse 7, which teaches that gratitude attracts more divine favour.
Despite their appreciation, the group expressed concern over the perceived inadequate political representation of Muslims from the Southwest in federal appointments. Rahaman appealed to President Tinubu to ensure fairness and equity in distributing political opportunities to reflect the region’s diversity.
He also highlighted that none of the seventeen southern states currently has a Muslim governor, describing the situation as worrisome. Rahaman urged Muslims to mobilise and support credible Muslim candidates to change the narrative, quoting Surah Ar-Ra’d, Chapter 13, Verse 11: “Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is within themselves.”
The group specifically endorsed Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, describing him as a committed Muslim and a capable, inclusive leader deserving the Ummah’s support.
In his remarks, Oyebamiji thanked the stakeholders for their endorsement, highlighting the significance of Ramadan as the month in which the Holy Qur’an was revealed. He urged the Muslim Ummah to spread kindness beyond religious boundaries and assured voters that, if elected, he would uplift Islam and fulfil all his campaign promises.
He also appealed to residents of Osun State who have not yet collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to visit their nearest INEC offices, stressing that voter registration is key to ensuring political change.
“I strongly appeal to everyone to go to their ward and collect their PVCs. This is the only instrument that can liberate us and change the current government,” Oyebamiji said.
