C/River man arrested for killing mother with stick

A man identified as Mathias Amunde, has been taken into custody by the Cross River State Police Command for allegedly killing his mother with a stick in the Obudu Local Government Area of the state.

In an interrogation video shared by an Instagram user, @isaacfayoseoriginal, on Monday, the suspect alongside an accomplice used a big stick to smash his mother on her head, dragged her body outside and threw it inside a well.

The suspect while being interrogated in a police station noted that his accomplice fled after they jointly threw his mother’s remains inside a well.

He said in Pidgin (now translated), “I and Walcot killed her. We killed her with a stick. Walcot has gone to his house. After we killed her, Walcot dragged her out of the house and we jointly dragged him to the well.

“After we got to the well, I opened it and we jointly carried her body and threw it into the well.”

Confirming the incident the state Police Public Relations Office, Irene Ugbo, noted that the case would be referred to the command’s headquarters for further investigation.

“Yes, he has been arrested. He will be transferred to the police headquarters for further investigation tomorrow (Tuesday),” Ugbo said.
