The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Borno State yesterday said nine of its members have died at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp.
Coordinator of the Church of the Brethren (EYN) camp, Mr. Daniel Ali Garga, told journalists in Maiduguri that two of the IDPs died at the weekend while the other seven members passed away a week ago at the State Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri after brief illnesses.
“We lost two IDPs on Saturday in my camp making a total of nine deaths recorded so far. May their souls rest in perfect peace,” Garga said.
He said the two persons that died at the weekend were believed to have battled with heart attack and kidney failure, while two other IDPs were suspected to be having psychiatric problems, adding that they had been admitted at the Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital.
“They were treated and discharged of the trauma and shock they had, after they were attacked and displaced from their communities by Boko Haram early this year,” the coordinator said.
Giving details about the two deceased IDPs, he said one of them, Daniel Kadagha (47), was survived by six children, while Mrs. Tani Dughwadza (68), died on the same day due to cardiac arrest at the camp.”
