Adeleke Condemns Attacks on Accord, Public Property, Urges Police to Arrest Perpetrators

By Sunday Oguntuyi, Osogbo
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has condemned the recent attacks on billboards belonging to his party as well as the vandalisation of public property, particularly the statues located at the Abere roundabout in Osogbo.
The governor called on the police to arrest those responsible for the attacks and ensure they are brought to justice.
In a statement issued on Monday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke described the incidents as unacceptable, noting that the attacks had gone beyond political billboard vandalism to the destruction of government property.
He directed the Osun State Commissioner of Police to take decisive action against those allegedly involved, warning against what he described as the apparent shielding of suspected APC thugs.
The governor also cautioned that security agencies must act swiftly to prevent residents from resorting to self-help.
While commending police officers who reportedly repelled an attempt to destroy the statues at the Abere roundabout, Adeleke stressed that security agencies should move beyond merely dispersing the attackers and ensure arrests are made.
“I hereby direct the Commissioner of Police to immediately effect the arrest of Asiri Eniba and his gangs who are terrorising the state. They move around in Sienna buses, Hilux jeeps and motorcycles, shooting sporadically. The police know them and the state command should do the needful,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.
“These political criminals are now attacking public property. Security agencies should prevent a scenario where untamed thugs set the state secretariat and other government buildings on fire,” he added.
Adeleke further called on all security agencies to intensify efforts toward maintaining law and order across the state.
“I call on all security agencies to rise to this urgent task of enforcing law and order and preventing anarchy. The police authorities must not wait for the public to resort to self-help before taking potent action,” the governor warned.
