Abia ADC leaders disown Don Norman back Kanu as acting state chairman

The Abia State Leadership Caucus of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has disowned Don Norman Obinna, declaring that he lacks the authority to act or speak as the party’s chairman in the state.

The decision was taken during a meeting held at the ADC State Secretariat in Umuahia, where party leaders reviewed the ongoing leadership situation and reaffirmed their commitment to due process, internal discipline, and the rule of law.

Among those present at the meeting were Senator Austine Akobundu, who represents Abia Central in the National Assembly, former House of Representatives member Uko Nkole, and Okey Igwe, alongside other party stakeholders.

Presenting the communiqué issued after the meeting, Nkole said the caucus took note of a subsisting order of the Abia State High Court restraining Obinna from parading himself as the party’s chairman in the state.

According to him, the court, through an interim injunction dated December 3, 2025, barred Obinna from acting in any capacity as chairman of the ADC in Abia State pending the determination of the case before it.

The caucus also cited the findings of the ADC South-East Zonal Disciplinary Committee contained in a report dated September 25, 2025, which clarified the party’s position on Obinna’s conduct and status within the organisation.

The leaders said Obinna’s continued claim to the leadership of the party in the state was unlawful and misleading, describing it as a breach of party discipline and a violation of the court order.

They further declared that any meetings, directives, or public engagements carried out by him in the name of the party were null and void.

The caucus reaffirmed Kanu O. Kanu as the Acting State Chairman of the ADC in Abia State pending the conduct of the party’s state congresses.

It also urged members of the public, security agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to disregard any statements or actions attributed to Obinna in the capacity of ADC chairman in the state.

The caucus expressed confidence in the party’s national leadership under former Senate President David Mark, reiterating its commitment to unity, discipline, and respect for constituted authority within the ADC.
