Rivers LG executives protest plan to sack them by RSHA

The ever busy Moscow Road, leading to the Rivers State House of Assembly was barricaded early this morning when thousands of youths trooped to the road to protest plan by the lawmakers to dissolve the 22 newly elected council executives across the state.
The former Governor, Rotimi Amaechi had sworn-in the executives on May, 25 before he bowed out on May 29 but following the inauguration of Governor Nyesom Wike, the lawmakers resolved to dissolve the council executives.
Speaking to Hallmark News, one of the protesters and Chairman, Degema local government area, Mr. Sogbeye Eli said that the protest was staged to resist what he dubbed attempt to dissolve elected councils in the state using the state House of Assembly.
Earlier, the house had directed the state governor to dissolve the Professor Augustine Ahiazu led Rivers state Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC that conducted the council election on May 23 over allegations of abuse of office.
