Ogun distributes relief materials to windstorm victims in Imeko-Afon

Ogun, NEMA Assure Iwopin Windstorm Victims of Prompt Relief

The Ogun State Government, in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency, has distributed relief materials to victims of the recent windstorm disaster in Oke-Agbede, Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of the state.

The intervention followed earlier financial assistance provided by the state government to affected residents to help cushion the impact of the disaster.

Speaking during the distribution exercise held at the Trade Fair Complex in Abeokuta, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Funmi Baker, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare and well-being of residents.

Items distributed to victims included bags of rice, beans, garri, roofing sheets and nails, among other relief materials.

Baker described the intervention as a commendable collaboration between the federal and state governments, adding that the administration would continue to fulfil its responsibilities to citizens.

She also advised beneficiaries to be cautious in handling naked fire in order to prevent future incidents.

“The government will not relent in fulfilling its electoral promises and ensuring the welfare of the people,” she said.

In his remarks, Director of the Ogun State Emergency Management Agency, Soji Durojaiye, stressed the importance of ensuring that the materials reached the intended beneficiaries without diversion.

“The items must get to the affected victims and must not be truncated along the line,” he said.

Also speaking, the South-West Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Kadiri Olanrewaju, said the relief support was aimed at improving the living conditions of those affected by the windstorm.

He urged the beneficiaries to make proper use of the items distributed to them.

The representative of Imeko-Afon Local Government Area, Jamiu Yinusa, commended both the federal and state governments for the intervention and assured that the relief materials would be delivered to the affected residents.
