Kwara 2027: AbdulRazaq endorses Yahaya Seriki for APC governorship ticket

AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has announced Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki (MFR) as his preferred successor in the forthcoming 2027 governorship race, ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries scheduled for Wednesday in Ilorin.

In a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday, the Kwara State governor said the decision followed extensive consultations with party leaders and stakeholders across the state.

“Following extensive consultations with party structures and leadership, I am pleased to endorse Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki (MFR) as my preferred successor under the platform of our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC),” AbdulRazaq said.

He described Seriki as a young, energetic and experienced political mobiliser with strong grassroots connections and widespread goodwill across Kwara State.

According to him, the endorsement is aimed at sustaining unity within the party and ensuring continuity in governance and development projects.

“I have no doubt about his capacity, and that his choice is appropriate for the people of our state at this time,” the governor added.

While stressing his preference for Seriki, AbdulRazaq noted that the endorsement does not prevent other aspirants from participating in the party’s primary election.

He urged party members and delegates to support Seriki’s emergence at the primaries, describing it as a step toward consolidating the APC’s strength in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“While this does not in any way preclude all other aspirants from contesting in the primaries, I urge members and leaders to affirm the choice of Seriki as our candidate for cohesion, unity, and continuous success of the party,” he said.

The governor further described Seriki as “pro-people, broad-minded and highly resourceful,” adding that he has made significant investments and built strong goodwill among residents of the state.

He also clarified that the endorsement should not be interpreted as a dismissal of other aspirants, noting that all contestants remain qualified and respected members of the party.

“In a race involving some 16 great minds for one office, only one person can take the shot at a time,” he said.

AbdulRazaq commended all aspirants for what he described as their discipline and commitment to the APC’s progress, saying their contributions have strengthened governance in the state over the past seven years.

He expressed confidence that the party would conduct a peaceful and credible primary election, adding that unity after the exercise would be critical to the APC’s success in 2027.
