Akpabio’s volte-face

ADC 'dying,' Akpabio says as Abaribe, other lawmakers dump party

The Christmas declaration by Senate President Godswil Akpabio, citing a sermon that touched his heart, has unraveled as a facade. His subsequent denial of withdrawing cases against Senator Natasha, contradicted by facts, raises serious questions about his integrity.

The Senate President’s actions suggest a pattern of deception, undermining the trust reposed in him as a leader. Proverbs 19:22 warns, “A man’s pride shall bring him low, but he that is of a lowly spirit shall obtain honor”.

The suspension of Senator Natasha for six months, despite clear constitutional provisions, exposes a personal vendetta. Previous cases, including those of Senators Ningi, Omoagege, and Ali Ndume, saw the courts ruling in their favor, declaring such suspensions unconstitutional.

Akpabio’s appeal at the Supreme Court, contradicting his earlier declaration, is a desperate attempt to justify his actions. But as Psalm 37:12-13 says, “The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them, but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for He knows their day is coming”.

Senator Natasha stands firm, backed by the constitution and precedents. Her resilience is a testament to her commitment to justice. The Supreme Court will ultimately decide, but Akpabio’s ego may be his downfall.

The church, where Akpabio worships, deserves better than to be associated with his actions. May wisdom and humility guide those in power, lest they forget that “hatred, wickedness, and envy, when taken too far, always end in big shame”.
