Muftwang dumps PDP, set to join APC

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), paving the way for his planned defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor’s decision was conveyed in a resignation letter dated December 29, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Ampang West Ward, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

In the letter, Mutfwang formally announced his withdrawal from the party with immediate effect, while expressing appreciation to the PDP for the opportunity it gave him to participate in Nigeria’s democratic process.

“I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process. I acknowledge the support of party leaders, members and supporters at all levels during my time in the party, and I remain grateful for the trust reposed in me,” he stated.

The governor explained that his decision was driven by prevailing political realities and his commitment to effective leadership and service delivery.

“Given the realities of the moment and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction and service delivery, I am compelled to seek an alternative political platform,” the letter read.

The resignation was acknowledged at the ward level, with party officials confirming receipt of the letter.

Although Mutfwang did not disclose his next political destination, multiple sources within the APC confirmed that the governor is expected to formally defect to the ruling party in the coming days.

Mutfwang, a legal practitioner, was elected governor on the platform of the PDP in the 2023 general election. His exit from the party is expected to have far-reaching political implications in Plateau State, particularly as political alignments intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
