Yuguda backs Tinubu on subsidy removal, says president courageous

Isa Yuguda, former governor of Bauchi state on Channels’ Television’s programme Sunrise Daily on Monday said, ‘President Tinubu should be commended for having the courage to remove the scam called subsidy.’

He said he was the chairman of a committee that looked into subsidy issue during the administration of former President Good luck Jonathan and the committee discovered that the subsidy was a scam used by oil cabal and other vested interests in high places to steal public funds.

According to him, the Committee discovered layer and layers of deceit on subsidy which was contained in the report submitted to the president but the report was never implemented as a result of lack of political will.

Yuguda stated that he once travelled with President Jonathan to China along with others, one of whom was his close friends who was highly placed in the oil industry, and right there in China, he as the chairman of the Committee, again pleaded with President Jonathan to remove the subsidy but Jonathan could not muster enough political will.

He stated that the little that could pass for subsidy benefited not Nigerians but citizens of Central and West African countries where the petroleum products are smuggled into on a daily basis.

” You can’t imagine it. A friend told me that he wanted the subsidy removed because he and his colleagues in the oil business were tired of making money out of the scam called subsidy at the expense of Nigerians,” he said.

He advised President Tinubu to go after subsidy scammers and bring them to justice.
