Nigerian Breweries Plc(NB) has disclosed that it extended  the
deadline for submission of entries for the Maltina Teacher-of-the-Year
Awards  from  June 30th, 2015 to July 24th, 2015, due to popular
demands by teachers.

Maltina-pix-550x400_cAccording to the CSR/Sustainability Manager, NB, Emete Tonukari  who
made the disclosure at the weekend while fielding questions from
journalists in Lagos  said  that the extension would enable other
teachers who are yet to, to submit their entries.
“We decided to consider the requests of teachers across the country
who are asking for the extension in deadline to enable them
participate in the awards. It is their awards and we also want as more
teachers that are willing to avail themselves of the opportunity as
possible to participate,” Tonukari said.
Tonukari explained that the innovative award is aimed at making the
teaching profession aspirational by rewarding exceptional teachers.
“A lot of people don’t want to stay in the teaching profession. They
are just there marking time, waiting for other job opportunities. The
award is to make teaching aspirational. We want to make people want to
join the teaching profession.”
On the number of entries so far received, Tonukari said that due to
the various channels of sending entries from across the country, it
would be difficult to give exact figure but noted that the response
has been “ impressive” as  reports from collation centres  indicated
that hundreds of secondary school teachers have submitted entries.
