Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari on Thursday, urged fellow governors in the North West to begin dialogue with bandits with a view to bringing an end to their attacks.

Masari who spoke after a security meeting in Katsina also called for bandits to be offered amnesty, noting that his state was the first to introduce such an approach but could not sustain it because others did not key into it.

“Kaduna, Niger, Zamfara, Kebbi and others must sit to do it as a whole to achieve the desired result,” he said. “We started it but failed when our neighbouring states didn’t. These states must come together.”

The governor said a special security operation had commenced to restore peace across the eight states most affected by the activities of the bandits.
