TRACE Deploys Special Patrol Teams Across Ogun Highways for Eid-el-Kabir

By Popoola Jamiu, Abeokuta
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has announced the deployment of special patrol operatives across major highways and traffic corridors in the state ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The TRACE Commander, Elias Omonayajo, disclosed this in Abeokuta while speaking with journalists, noting that the operation is aimed at ensuring smooth traffic flow, reducing road obstructions and providing prompt emergency response during the festive period.
He said the special operation will cover 27 major traffic corridors across the state and will run throughout the Eid-el-Kabir celebration period and beyond.
According to him, the initiative is designed to strengthen traffic management, improve safety and ensure quick response to accidents and breakdowns along major routes on a 24-hour basis.
Omonayajo explained that the deployment would involve full mobilisation of TRACE personnel drawn from 65 commands across the state to man strategic locations, checkpoints and high-traffic areas.
He noted that the expected surge in human and vehicular movement during the festive season often leads to congestion, vehicle breakdowns, road obstructions and traffic crashes, hence the need for proactive enforcement.
Major corridors to be monitored include the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway; Interchange–Sagamu–Ijebu Ode–Benin/Ore Expressway; Sango/Ota–Atan–Owode–Idiroko Highway; Atan–Lusada–Agbara–Badagry route; Abeokuta–Kobape–Siun–Interchange Expressway; Abeokuta–Ewekoro–Ifo–Sango/Ota Expressway; and the Rounder–Abeokuta–Olorunda–Ayetoro–Imeko–Ilara border corridor, among others.
The TRACE commander urged motorists, tricyclists and motorcyclists to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on journeys, warning against the use of faulty components that could endanger lives.
He also cautioned against excessive speeding, night travel, overloading, use of worn-out tyres and driving against traffic regulations, noting that such offences would attract strict enforcement measures.
Omonayajo warned that any vehicle impounded for traffic violations during the special operation would remain in custody until after the conclusion of the Eid-el-Kabir enforcement exercise.
He further assured residents that emergency response and rescue services would be available throughout the period, adding that dedicated hotlines had been provided for distress calls.
The emergency numbers include 112 (toll-free), 0706 942 5555, 0806 270 3568 and 0803 491 9165.
