Peter Obi, Labour Party presidential candidate in 2023, has alleged that he and his family have received death threats in response to his New Year’s message to Nigerians.

The former Anambra State governor in a post on X, named Mr. Felix Morka, accusing him of issuing a veiled threat after criticising Obi’s message.

The post, which quickly went viral, included a link to a YouTube video of the aforementioned New Year’s address, urging the public to watch it and decide whether the threats were justified.

Obi explicitly challenged his critics to identify any transgression, reaffirming his dedication to decorum while vowing to continue speaking out against what he sees as Nigeria’s descent into authoritarianism.

“I ask the question because my New Year’s message has now resulted in threats to my life, family, and those around me,” Obi wrote.

“While I have received a variety of messages, one Mr Felix Morka has gone so far as to accuse me of ‘crossing the line,’ warning that I will face the consequences.”
