FIRS boss, Adedeji’s decision to back out has brought sanity to 2027 Oyo guber race – Group

The foremost Progressives Group in Oyo State, Progressives Yes Forum (PYF), has commended the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), Dr Zacch Adelabu Adedeji over his decision not to contest the 2027 Governorship Election in Oyo State, a decision which has it said, now brought sanity into the race.
Adedeji at the weekend, shocked the audience in his message during a church service at the St.John Anglican Church in his home town, Iwo Ate when he declared that he will no longer join the race to occupy the Governorship chair in 2027 after the tenure of the incumbent, Governor Seyi Makinde.
Before he made the declaration, there had been speculations from various movements, who had been on ground to work for him ahead of the contest, but his pronouncement caught everybody on unawares.
Adedeji who had previously held the position of Oyo State Commissioner for Finance from 2011 to 2015 while speaking dispelled rumour of having such ambition, saying he only wants to focus on the task before him at the moment.
The PYF in a statement on Tuesday, signed by its Director of Media and Strategy, Hon. Rasaq Olubodun said the pronouncement by Adedeji is a patriotic declaration.
It lauded Adedeji for his decision to focus on the national assignment given to him by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his determination not to be distracted by rumour of governorship ambition.
The PYF said the open declaration by FIRS boss has brought some level of sanity into the rumour going on in the state as to who and who are interested in replacing the incumbent governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde as the Governor of Oyo State.
PYF said in the statement “Though your decision not to contest the election is a surprise to us and those who hold you in high esteem. But your decision to concentrate on the job at hand and which will benefit our country’s economy is highly appreciated. It shows you as a true patriot who sacrificed personal ambition for the greater benefit of majority of Nigerians.
” Your decision and the open announcement of your non – participation in the 2027 Governorship election in Oyo State as painful as it may be to your supporters and friends, it has sanitized and purified the cloud of uncertainty that has pervaded the race towards the 2027 Governorship election within the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in the state.
“We strongly commend you for your constant progressive behaviours and conduct over the years since your tenure as the Commissioner for Finance in Oyo State during the administration of Late Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
” We particularly remember your introduction of Treasury Single Account, (TSA) in Oyo State which was later copied by other states in the federation.
” We in the PYF will continue to pray for your success in the task of Tax reform and other progressive and revolutionary reforms being embarked upon by President Tinubu ceaselessly.
“We also pray that the Almighty God will continue to give you knowledge and wisdom in the task of supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in transforming the economy of Nigeria to the best economy in Africa and one of the best economy in the world within the shortest possible time, through the tax reform agenda and continuous increase revenue generation”.
PFY appealed to Nigerians to continue to support government’s economic reform policies, saying the end to the suffering is almost in sight.
