Otti appoints Deutsch Detchoua as Enyimba head coach

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has approved the appointment of Coach Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel as the new Head Coach of Enyimba International Football Club, Aba.

The appointment, announced on Saturday, is part of the state government’s efforts to reposition the Aba-based club and restore its status as a dominant force in Nigerian and African football.

Enyimba, Nigeria’s most decorated football club, is a two-time CAF Champions League winner and multiple domestic league champion. The club has historically served as one of Abia State’s strongest sporting brands on the continental stage but has struggled in recent seasons to maintain its traditional standards of excellence.

Governor Otti’s administration said the decision to appoint a new head coach aligns with its broader vision to rebuild Enyimba, strengthen professionalism, and establish sustainable corporate governance within the club.

Coach Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel is a seasoned football tactician with CAF A, B and C coaching licences. He has previously served as Technical Adviser and Head Coach for several clubs in Nigeria and Cameroon, recording notable successes in both countries.

His achievements include winning the Nigeria National League (NNL) Best Coach Award in 2025, a recognition that underscored his technical expertise and impact at the club level.

According to the government, the new head coach is expected to provide renewed technical direction, improve the team’s competitive performance, and lay the groundwork for long-term success at Enyimba.

Governor Otti expressed confidence that Coach Deutsch’s experience, discipline and professional approach would play a key role in returning Enyimba to its rightful place among Africa’s elite football clubs.

The appointment takes immediate effect.
