New Year: PYF felicitates Nigerians, praises Tinubu, commends party leaders

The Progressives Yes Forum (PYF), a foremost progressive group in the South-West, has congratulated Nigerians as they usher in the New Year 2026.
In a New Year message signed by its Director of Media, Publicity and Strategy, Hon. Rasaq Olubodun, the group praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as the achievements of his administration in 2025.
PYF prayed that the New Year would bring greater prosperity, peace, economic growth and social progress to the country. It also called on Nigerians to continue to pray for the Tinubu administration to enable it consolidate what it described as the monumental gains recorded in 2025.
The group commended the Tinubu-led government for the drop in prices of foodstuffs and the reduction in petroleum product prices, noting that these developments made the year’s festive season “one with a difference” for Nigerians.
It particularly praised the administration for improvements in the nation’s security situation, especially during the Yuletide period, the withdrawal of police officers attached to VIPs, the overall strengthening of the country’s security architecture, and the government’s resolve to establish state police.
Olubodun also highlighted other achievements of the administration, including the diversification of government revenue sources beyond crude oil.
According to him, “The Tinubu administration attained a record-breaking increase in non-oil revenue, achieving its 2025 target by August with over N20 trillion. In September 2025 alone, N3.65 trillion was raised, representing a 411 per cent increase over the amount recorded in May 2023.”
He added that Nigeria’s fiscal health had also improved significantly, with the debt service-to-revenue ratio reduced from about 97 per cent to below 50 per cent.
“The administration has also paid down the infamous ‘Ways and Means’ advances that once threatened the country’s economic stability,” he said.
Olubodun further noted that Nigeria’s external reserves had risen to $42.03 billion as of September 2025, the highest level since 2019, providing a buffer against global economic shocks.
He stated that the administration was expanding the tax base without overburdening ordinary Nigerians, with the tax-to-GDP ratio increasing to 13.5 per cent from less than 10 per cent.
“The new tax law will further expand the tax base while providing relief for low-income earners,” he said.
At the state level, PYF commended the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Alhaji Olaide Abass, and other members of the state executive for their efforts to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group praised what it described as a renewed spirit of unity within the Oyo APC, noting that party leaders had largely set aside personal ambitions to work collectively towards reclaiming Agodi Government House in 2027.
PYF also lauded the resilience of its supporters and expressed confidence that their efforts would be rewarded, assuring that “there is light at the end of the dark tunnel” ahead of the 2027 elections.
