Labour Party has a presidential candidate, I’m focused on governing Abia – Otti

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has reaffirmed his commitment to the Labour Party (LP), saying the party already has a presidential candidate and dismissing suggestions that he should support the flag bearer of another political platform ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking during his monthly media chat on Thursday, Otti said attempts to drag him into premature political debates would not distract him from his mandate of delivering good governance to the people of Abia State.

The governor, who is one of the prominent leaders of the Labour Party, stressed that his political allegiance remained with the party.

“The Labour Party has a presidential candidate, so the question of whether I would support the candidate of another party ought not to arise,” Otti said.

He added that his priority was to fulfil the mandate entrusted to him by Abians rather than engage in political speculation.

“I am focused on my mandate and my mission, which is to seek the good and welfare of the Abia public. I have no time for distractions,” the governor stated.

Otti’s remarks come amid growing political realignments and speculation over possible alliances ahead of the 2027 general election, with several opposition figures reportedly exploring coalition arrangements.

The governor, however, avoided commenting on the activities of other political parties, insisting that his attention remained on governance.

Beyond politics, Otti highlighted some of his administration’s achievements and outlined ongoing efforts to improve the state’s transportation system, security and investment climate.

He announced that the state had procured 20 additional electric buses, which would soon be deployed for inter-city transportation.

“We have procured 20 more electric buses with higher capacity. They have arrived the state and will soon be deployed for inter-city operations to make transportation easier and more affordable for our people,” he said.

On security, the governor reiterated his administration’s tough stance against criminality, warning that Abia would remain hostile to criminals.

“If you commit any crime in Abia, you will be pursued, found and made to answer for it. Criminals have no place in our state,” he declared.

Otti also assured retirees that payment of outstanding gratuities was imminent, revealing that the government had already set aside the required funds.

“The funds are already in the bank. What remains is for the officials involved to present the accurate figures for approval, and payments will commence,” he said.

The governor further disclosed that his administration continued to attract investment interests from both local and international investors, attributing the development to reforms aimed at creating a conducive business environment.

According to him, investors from Europe, the United States, Asia and other parts of the world have continued to visit Abia to explore investment opportunities.

“Our focus is to continue creating an environment where businesses can thrive, and that is why serious investors are coming to Abia to discuss real investment opportunities,” Otti added.
