ALGON donates 300 motorcycles to security agencies in Osun

The Osun State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) on Tuesday donated 300 motorcycles to security agencies across the state to enhance their operational capacity.

Chairman of ALGON in Osun, Hon. Idowu Abiodun, said the distribution underscores the association’s commitment to the safety and well-being of residents.

He spoke during the presentation of the motorcycles at the State Police Headquarters in Osogbo, where beneficiaries included the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), as well as vigilante groups, hunters, and other community-based security outfits.

Abiodun explained that the initiative is aimed at strengthening community policing and ensuring that no part of the state is left vulnerable, stressing that security remains the foundation of meaningful development.

According to him, the motorcycles will improve mobility, enhance response time, and enable security operatives to access difficult terrains, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach communities.

He commended security personnel for their dedication and sacrifices, noting that their commitment continues to inspire public confidence.

Abiodun also called on residents to support security agencies by remaining vigilant and providing timely information, emphasising that security is a collective responsibility.

He attributed the success of the initiative to the growing autonomy of local governments under the administration of President Bola Tinubu, noting that increased independence has enabled councils to respond more effectively to local challenges.

Speaking at the event, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, commended ALGON for the intervention and called for sustained collaboration among stakeholders to tackle security challenges.
