The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State Command, has disclosed that it arrested 210 suspects for offences ranging from vandalism and fraud to illegal mining within the last one and a half years.
The State Commandant, Remilekun Ekundayo, made this known during a familiarisation visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, in Abeokuta.
Ekundayo also revealed that the command recovered over N23 million in fraud-related cases on behalf of victims during the period under review.
According to her, more than 1,700 disputes were resolved through Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms, while the command sustained intelligence-driven operations that helped prevent several criminal activities across the state.
She said the command had intensified the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, including pipelines, railway corridors and power installations.
The commandant noted that the achievements reflected the commitment of the corps to security and public safety, stressing that security remained a collective responsibility.
She called for stronger collaboration with the media to enhance public awareness and strengthen security efforts in the state.
Ekundayo explained that the visit was aimed at deepening cooperation between the corps and the media, which she described as a critical partner in the security architecture of the state.
She added that journalists play vital roles beyond reporting by shaping public perception, influencing attitudes and serving as a bridge between government institutions and the public.
“In matters of security, your role becomes even more strategic and impactful,” she said.
“NSCDC is statutorily empowered to protect critical national assets and infrastructure, prevent vandalism and economic sabotage, and support disaster management and emergency response.”
Responding, the Chairman of the Ogun State Council of the NUJ, Wale Olanrewaju, assured the commandant of the council’s support and pledged continued collaboration through accurate and prompt reportage of security-related issues.
