Alli declares for 2027 Oyo governorship, promises inclusive leadership

Senator Sarafadeen Alli, representing Oyo South Senatorial District, has formally declared his intention to contest the Oyo State governorship election in 2027.

The declaration, held on April 19 at Yemetu in Ibadan, drew a large crowd, with supporters from across the 33 local government areas of the state in attendance. The event was also graced by prominent political figures, including members of the National Assembly and fellow senators such as Yinus Akintunde.

In his address, Alli said his ambition is driven by a commitment to reposition Oyo State through people-oriented governance, while fostering unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He criticised the current administration under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), accusing it of maladministration and neglect of key sectors, particularly local government administration.

The former chairman of Ibadan North Local Government pledged to revitalise local councils, describing them as critical to grassroots development. He also promised reforms in education, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure.

Alli described his campaign as a “homecoming,” citing his experience as a former local government chairman, Secretary to the State Government, chairman of Odu’a Group, and now a senator as evidence of his preparedness for leadership.

He emphasised his commitment to youth and women empowerment, as well as grassroots development, saying his vision is to usher in a “new dawn” for the state.

“I am a tested and trusted politician, a grassroots mobiliser, and I am ready to deploy my experience to improve the lives of our people,” he said.

The lawmaker also pledged to strengthen security across the state and boost agricultural productivity, while outlining an education policy focused not just on infrastructure but on developing students for the future.

He further assured residents of an inclusive, transparent administration with an open-door policy if elected.

“I will remain accessible to the people as a grassroots politician,” he added.

During the event, Alli paid tribute to the late former governor, Abiola Ajimobi, for his contributions to the growth of the APC in the state.

He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and economic reforms, which he said are transforming the country.

Alli acknowledged several party leaders and stakeholders present at the event, including former Senate Leader Teslim Folarin, Mrs Florence Ajimobi, and former Deputy Governor Iyiola Oladokun.

Supporters at the rally described the senator as a “field general” with a strong grassroots base, expressing confidence in his ability to deliver effective governance.
