Trump offers $3,000 cash, free flights to undocumented migrants from Nigeria, other countries to voluntarily leave

The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has unveiled a new incentive-driven immigration programme offering undocumented migrants from Nigeria and other countries across the globe$3,000 and a free flight home if they voluntarily leave the country before the end of the year.

In a statement released on Monday, DHS said migrants who register to self-deport through the CBP Home app within the holiday window would qualify for the cash stipend, full travel arrangements to their home countries, and forgiveness of any outstanding civil fines or penalties linked to overstaying in the US.

The initiative, described as a limited-time holiday offer, is part of “Project Homecoming,” a programme launched in May 2025 under a presidential proclamation by former President Donald Trump.

According to DHS figures, about 1.9 million undocumented migrants have voluntarily exited the United States since January 2025, with tens of thousands using the CBP Home platform.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the incentive represents a temporary increase from the original $1,000 offer introduced earlier in the year.

“Since January 2025, 1.9 million illegal aliens have voluntarily self-deported, and tens of thousands have used the CBP Home programme,” Noem said.

“During the Christmas season, the US taxpayer is so generously tripling the incentive to leave voluntarily for those in this country illegally, offering a $3,000 exit bonus, but just until the end of the year.”

She warned that migrants who ignore the programme could face tougher enforcement measures.

“Illegal aliens should take advantage of this gift and self-deport because if they don’t, we will find them, we will arrest them, and they will never return,” Noem said.

Under Project Homecoming, DHS initially offered undocumented migrants $1,000 and free flights to encourage voluntary departure. The programme is funded through $250 million reallocated by the State Department from funds originally earmarked for refugee resettlement.

DHS said the CBP Home app provides a fast and cost-free process, requiring migrants to download the app, submit their information and allow the department to handle all travel logistics.

The agency also reiterated that undocumented migrants who refuse to participate risk arrest, forced deportation and permanent bans on re-entering the United States.
