The real reason why the fourth year anniversary of the death of Nigeria’s Lady of Songs, Chief (Mrs) Christy Essien Igbokwe which fell on Tuesday, June 30, was not celebrated, has been revealed.

According to her widower, Chief Edwin Igbokwe who made the revelation recently at a function where one of the demised songstress’ towering humanitarian gestures was unveiled, it has to do with her wishes and beliefs.

”She believed in five-year programmes and that was why we want to wait till the appropriate time. She had a lot of wishes and we’ve always abided by them hence this one is no exception. By God’s grace, she will clock five next year and we shall not fail to mark it,” he promised.

The occasion was the ”Widows’ Day’ celebration of The Living Waters Unlimited Church, Isolo-Lagos a fortnight ago where items worth about five million naira belonging to the Lady of Songs were distributed to widows from different walks of life.

Many of the widows actually broke down in tears as the items ranging from sewing machines, grinding machines, shoes, jewelries, foodstuff, etc, were freely shared amongst them.

The church has been noted for such gestures since its general overseer, Pastor Prosper Kanayo had an encounter with a woman who lost her husband because there was no money to hospitalize him consequent upon which he died in the house and the wife helpless until he offered them a lifeline.

”The gratitude and relief that followed, the smiles on the faces of people around and the expressions of joy on the face of the widow was enough motivation and that gave birth to ”See Joy Foundation”,  a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) that caters for the less privileged, especially widows,” he explained.

That was how the late woman of substance and her substance came in  Always in the forefront of lending a helping hand to the needy, once the pastor intimated them about same they embraced it.

Others who showed concern and have been solidly behind ”See Joy Foundation” include Dr. and Mrs Austin Izagbo, Lt Col Kefas (rtd), Bisi Olatilo and a host of others.

”It is part of the passion of the Lady of Songs and you can see how so many widows are smiling today,” Dr Izagbo noted.
