Arik Air Flight W3 740, flying from Lagos to Port Harcourt, was forced to divert to Benin Airport on Wednesday after the crew detected an unusual noise from the aircraft’s left engine, the airline has confirmed.
Business Hallmark had reported that in a statement, Arik Air’s Public Relations and Communications Manager, Mr. Adebanji Ola, said the Boeing 737-700, registered 5N-MJF, was already on its final approach to Port Harcourt when the anomaly was noticed. The crew followed standard safety procedures and opted for a precautionary diversion.
“All 80 passengers disembarked safely, and no injuries were recorded,” the airline said. Arrangements have been made to transport passengers to their final destinations.
“The airline apologises to passengers for the disruption to their journey. Passenger safety remains our top priority,” the statement added.
The cause of the engine issue has not yet been confirmed, and Arik Air said it would provide further details after a full inspection of the aircraft.
