About 30 people were killed on Saturday afternoon when a suicide Bomber sneaked into a mosque along Ali Kotoko Road, Maiduguri, Borno State, Hallmark News has learnt.
The explosion came a day after President Mohammadu Buhari was sworn-in, in which Muslim faithfuls who were observing prayer in the mosque were killed.
According to the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), Modu Fugu, the blast occurred when the prayer session was about to commence, adding, “The suicide bomber would have disguised as a Muslim who had come for prayer.”
He said, “We were terrified by the loud explosion that rocked the mosque near bicycle sellers market and other shops when the prayer session was cut and worshippers fled to safety. But many were killed and scores injured.”
Borno State Police Command confirmed the mosque blast, but said it was yet to get the casualty figure. The Red Cross and volunteers were reportedly involved in the rescue operation.
The suicide bombing occurred barely five hours that the suspected Boko Haram members attacked Malari village in Borno State and injured about 20 people in Bulunkutu Saleke, Gomari and Ajilari.
Commenting, the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), Ibrahim Yakubu said that the insurgents shot sporadically to the villagers and eventually wounded many of them.
