Orette condemns Ozoro assault, demands justice for victims

A senatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta South, Austin Orette, has strongly condemned the alleged assault of women in Oruamudhu community, Ozoro, in Isoko North Local Government Area, describing the incident as a grave violation of human rights and a disturbing reflection of societal decay.

In a statement titled “No to Sexual Abuse in Delta South Senatorial District,” Orette decried what he termed the “ascendancy of evil” in the community, stressing that the incident underscores the urgent need for intensified public education against harmful cultural practices.

“It tells us that much still needs to be done to truly educate the people on the need to abolish barbaric culture,” he said.

The APC chieftain also criticised individuals and groups he accused of undermining social cohesion in the area, warning that such actions threaten the safety and dignity of vulnerable members of society.

Orette called on the Delta State Government to take swift and decisive action to protect victims and prevent a recurrence, while advocating stronger safeguards for women and children across the state.

“The Delta State Government owes it to the victims to take immediate action,” he stated.

He further condemned practices that degrade women, particularly in public settings, urging communities not to remain silent in the face of abuse.

“The community must not turn a blind eye to these atrocities,” he added.

Orette emphasised the need for fair and unhindered access to justice for victims, urging authorities to ensure thorough investigations and diligent prosecution of those responsible.

“The onus is on the government to strengthen the rule of law and ensure proper investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators. Delivering justice to victims sends a clear message of zero tolerance and helps to stop recurrence,” he said.

He also extended his sympathy to the victims, insisting that those behind the alleged acts must be held accountable.

“These crimes must be punished, and those responsible must be brought to justice,” Orette said.
