OGBPMA trains professionals on improving project monitoring and certification

Professionals in the building and development sector have been urged to embrace modern techniques in project monitoring and certification to uphold standards and prevent the loss of lives and property resulting from building collapses.
The advice came from Ogun State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Tpl. Olatunji Odunlami, during an in-house training organised by the Ogun State Building Production Management Authority (OGBPMA), a sister agency under the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. The training took place at the Oba’s Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The programme, themed “Effective Monitoring and Stage Certification of Building Projects,” focused on enhancing the monitoring and certification of building projects across the state. It was formally declared open by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Fajounbo, represented by the Director of Management Services and Training, Mr. Obasanjo Adeniyi, reiterated the government’s commitment to training and retraining its workforce. She encouraged participants to maximise their potential and apply the knowledge gained to improve productivity and service delivery.
In her welcome address, OGBPMA General Manager, Builder Mrs. Titilayo Oladogbon, said the programme aligns with the Ogun State Head of Service’s vision for a more efficient and competent public service. She reminded staff of their statutory responsibilities under Section 47(a) of the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law, 2022, which mandates the preparation, enforcement, and review of building regulations with utmost diligence, highlighting the importance of safe building practices.
The training, designed to equip professional staff with updated knowledge and practical tools to identify risks early, enforce compliance, and prevent building failures, featured resource persons and experts from Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, and Building disciplines.
In their closing remarks, participants expressed renewed commitment to their roles, pledging to ensure that every structure in Ogun State meets the required standards and protects the public.
