Nigerian, Shola Taylor, appointed CTO secretary general

A Nigerian, Shola Taylor, has been appointed as the Secretary-General of London-based Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO)
His appointment was made known yesterday by thePermanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communications Technology, Dr. Tunde Olaopa, at the Commonwealth Broadband Forum which is opened in Abuja.
Speaking with Hallmark on the appointment, Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) president, Lanre Ajayi, said the position given to Taylor has further confirmed the strength of Nigeria in the global industry scene.
“Shola Taylor deserves this position.
He occupies even a superior position in ITU which is more global than CTO.
I thing his appointment would rebrand Nigeria image and by extension, give the country some industry benefits directly and indirectly,” Ajayi stated.
CTO is an international treaty organisation that supports its members in integrating information and communication technologies to deliver effective development interventions that emancipate, enrich, equalise and empower people within the Commonwealth and beyond.
Taylor will assume the new role from September 17 became the Deputy Secretary General of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) last year.
Taylor is currently the chief executive officer of Kemilinks International, a global ICT consultancy firm based in Lagos.
