NATAP Lagos celebrates World Theatre Day

Last Friday National Associaton of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practioners NANTAP celebrated world theatre day. The event which took place at the banquet hall of the National theatre honoured many notable Nigerians in the Art world, Bolanle Austen-Peters, Teju Oyelakin, Yemi Shodimu, Efe Omorogbe, Emem Isong, Peace Anyiam Osigwe, Laja Adedoyin, Tunji Bamishigbin, Pat Imobhio, Ejike Asiegbu,Rogers Ofime,Debo Alexander Lancelot Oduwa, Bunmi Davies,Femi Odugbemi and Dr Osita Ezenwanebe.
In a welcome address by the chairman of NANTAP , Lagos chapter Eki Eboigbe noted why the celebration was shifted from March to June was because of Nigeria’s election adding that the success of NANTAP Lagos has contributed to the Art Industry in Nigeria. Eboigbe applauded those who were been honoured at the event noting that their contribution has helped sustained the Theatre Industry that is why they are honoured.
Country Manager British Council Nigeria, Connie Price, who was guest speaker spoke on Theatre and Conflict Resolution in the 21st Century. She emphasize on how theatre have helped resolved conflict in recent times noting that for thousands of years human beings have been involved in one conflict or the other. Price believe that theatre is so powerful in the way it resolves the emotion that divides violence in our community.
Awardees at the event thanked NANTAP Lagos for this good gesture of honouring artist every year. Austen -Peters thanked NANTAP for considering her worthy for the award of distinguish personality saying it is a rear privilege. Yemi Shodimu who spoke on behalf those honoured culture ambassadors thanked NANTAP and honoured the late ….. with it.
