MAMA’s greatest casualties

How Tuface, Flavour, Wizkid and others crashed out!
…as Yemi Alade, Davido, D’banj smile
All is well that ends well. And, in every competitive event, there are always high expectations by the participants on what the outcome will be and portends at the end of the day.
The much-publicized MTV Africa Music Awards 2015 finally came to the fore last Saturday in Durban, South Africa and expectedly, many Nigerian acts were involved and present there.
But like singer-turned gospeller, Felix Lebarty crooned a few years back, ‘’some cried and some jubilated’’ at the end of it all. All that glitters were not gold at least, as the judges saw it.
Nigeria’s shining stars, Tuface Idibia, Flavour, Basket Mouth, Wizkid, who were like sure bets before the event, got the losers’ bands. There was nothing for them and they are still gnashing teeth over it.
However, they may have to take solace in the fact that they’ve won several awards in the past but in the words of Kenneth Johnson, an industry watcher, ‘’the ability of an artiste to win an award always means that he is moving forward. And failure means that he may be derailing, it doesn’t augur well no matter the criteria used.’’
All the same, it was not a total failure for our dear country. The likes of new comer, Yemi Alade, Davido, D’banj, carried the day for us. Also worth mentioning was the way none of our acts failed to show face at the glamorous event. Even the uninvited were there on their, self-sponsored and showed off the Naija way.
‘’Everybody cannot be a winner same day. Those who lost out should learn how to be sportsmanly. Besides, it spurs one to sit back and work harder against subsequent editions. The judges were fair and firm,’’ Ben Dike who witnessed the august show at the Durban International Convention Centre, South Africa, stated.
