Malami, son, wife granted N500m bail each by Abuja court

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday granted bail to former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, his son Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami, and his wife Bashir Asabe, setting the amount at N500 million each.
Presiding Judge Emeka Nwite ruled that each defendant must provide two sureties of similar value, with the sureties owning landed property within the Asokoro, Maitama, or Gwarimpa districts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned the trio on charges of money laundering totalling N8.7 billion, while also linking assets worth N212 billion to Malami. All three defendants pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
Earlier, on December 30, 2025, the court had remanded Malami, his son, and his wife at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the outcome of their bail applications.
