Grid shortfall hits Southwest as IBEDC explains worsening power outages

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has blamed the persistent power outages and erratic electricity supply across its franchise areas on a sharp reduction in load allocation from the national grid.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday, the distribution company said customers in Oyo, Kwara, Ogun, Osun and parts of Ibadan have been affected, apologising for the inconvenience caused by the development.

IBEDC explained that the reduced allocation from the national grid has significantly constrained the amount of electricity available for distribution within its coverage areas, leading to prolonged outages and intermittent supply.

According to the company, it is in active engagement with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the Nigeria Independent System Operator (NISO) to address the challenges and restore supply stability.

“This situation is due to a reduction in load allocation from the national grid, which has limited the electricity available for distribution within our franchise,” IBEDC said.

The company added that, pending improvement in supply, the limited power available is being carefully and fairly distributed across feeders and service bands to ensure equity and operational efficiency.

IBEDC thanked customers for their patience and assured them that it would continue to provide updates as efforts to stabilise electricity supply progress.
