Fubara dissolves Rivers Executive Council after truce with Wike

The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has ordered political appointees in his administration to immediately hand over to top civil servants following the dissolution of the State Executive Council.

The decision was disclosed on Thursday in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onwuka Nzeshi.

According to the statement, the governor directed all Commissioners and Special Advisers to “hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior officers in their respective ministries with immediate effect.”

The directive effectively brings the tenure of the affected appointees to a close, with the governor directing them to transfer responsibilities without delay to ensure continuity in government operations.

He expressed appreciation to the outgoing members of the Executive Council for their service to the state and wished them well in their future endeavours.

The dissolution of the cabinet comes 48 hours after the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, confirmed reconciliation efforts aimed at resolving the protracted political crisis in the state.

Recall that earlier President Bola Tinubu on Monday night hosted a meeting with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and key stakeholders from the state at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

While official details of the meeting were not disclosed, sources familiar with the discussions said the talks were part of ongoing efforts by the Presidency to broker peace and restore political stability in the oil-rich state, which has been embroiled in a bitter power struggle for months, according to.

According to one of the sources, Governor Fubara later accompanied Wike to his residence in Guzape, Abuja, following the meeting at Aso Rock.
