FG expands humanitarian programme, reaches thousands more in Ogun

By Popoola Jamiu, Abeokuta

The Federal Government has expanded the scope of its Renewed Hope humanitarian programme with the distribution of debit cards to 6,000 additional households in Ogun State, as part of efforts to cushion the impact of economic hardship and alleviate poverty across the country.

Speaking with journalists during the debit card distribution exercise held in Sagamu Local Government Area, the State Programme Manager (SPM), Mr. Damilola Owoojuona, explained that the exercise was being implemented in phases.

He noted that the ongoing distribution specifically targets unbanked beneficiaries across the state to ensure broader financial inclusion.

According to Owoojuona, no fewer than 23,000 residents of Ogun State benefited from the initiative between November and December 2025 since the programme began.

The programme, which operates under the Household Prosperity and Empowerment (HoPE) Cash Transfer Programme, is designed to provide direct financial support to vulnerable households nationwide.

He advised residents whose names are captured in the National Social Register to remain hopeful, noting that more beneficiaries would be reached as the programme continues in phases.

Responding on behalf of other beneficiaries, Mrs. Kassim Dayo, Mrs. Onyeke Jane, and Mr. Ajayi Sikiru described the programme as reliable and commendable, stressing that the process was transparent and free from political or religious bias.

Similarly, another beneficiary in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, Mrs. Ogunseye Rebecca, expressed appreciation to both the Federal and Ogun State governments for the intervention.
